A California nuclear power plant, San Onofre nuclear generating station, closed for good on June 7, 2013. This is excellent news for renewable energy! Dennis Silverman, of the University of California, Irvine, has calculated that it would require a solar facility 20 square miles large to replace the nuclear generating station. While not all the power will be replaced by wind and solar projects, a good portion will. Clean USA Power Inc., will provide some of the land needed for more wind and solar projects due to the San Onofre closure. The need for renewable energy continues to rise!
